PRIDNESTROVYE. 6240, MOLDOVA (PMR), Radio PMR, Dec 29, 2343 - Tuned
into the end of the program with details in French, then into IS,
once, and into German. Good reception. Announced to Europe and North
America. Usual thick with politics (first story starts with Pres.
Smirnov). I suspect they don't start until 2315 (Walter Salmaniw,
Masset, Haida Gwaii, B.C., dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)

999 MOLDOVA Sodruzhestvo program, Jan 1 1830 - Another fascinating
channel. Often excellent level in Russian. Seemed to be one program to
17:30 and then another. At BOH, it faded down, while a Chinese station
faded up to dominate briefly, but the Moldovan transmitter came right back
into news. Golos Rossii ID at 18:32:30.

PRIDNESTROVYE. Hi Glenn, This week I received a QSL letter from
Radio Pridnestrovya for my reception report from 29 January 2009 at
2230 UT on 6240 kHz. B & W QSL letter of antenna array, Radio PMR
building with satellite dishes out front. V/S Vlad Butuk, Engineer of
Technical Service. The rest of the letter lists their broadcast
schedule in SW, MW and FM. SW listed as follows:

6240 MHz at 500 kW, Sgdra rotation A-31A, Azimuth 306 from
0100 to 0230 UTC in EG, FR, GE
7370 MHz at 500 kW, Sgdra rotation A-31A, Azimuth 296 from
1700 to 2100 UTC in EG, FR, GE
7375 MHZ at 500 kW, Sgdra rotation A-31A, Azimuth 296 from
2100 to 2230 UTC in EG, FR, GE

A small strip of paper enclosed with the QSL letter states: Dear Mr.
Edward J Insinger! Sorry, but we have to kept your waiting, some
problems before. Now all is okay. Many thanks for reception report! We
hope you will listening our radiobroadcast next time, All the best to
you and your family! (Note: copied here as written). Also gives e-mail
address: radiopmr @ inbox.ru and web site http://www.president-pmr.org

I don't know what he means by "Some problems before. Now all is okay."
Four beautiful color stamps on the envelope. 73's, (Ed Insinger,
Summit, NJ, Jan 8, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Ed, Tnx for the report. Was there a date on the letter, or legible
postmark? That schedule looks imaginary. What does he know? 7370 was
dropped a couple years ago, tho I see it and 7375 are still registered
for brief periods via that site, probably relaying YFR or something on
behalf of the Russians.

They are again on 6240 of course, but at 2315-2400 only, UT Sun-Thu. I
don`t think they were ever on at 0100+ UT, so the times are apparently
wrongly specified or converted (Glenn to Ed, via DXLD) And I wonder
what ``Sgdra rotation A-31A`` means

Hi Glenn, The postmark on the envelope is 12120915, POSTA MOLDOVEI,
C.P.. TIRASPOL. I don't know what the extra numbers on the date (15)
signify. [probably time of day, like USPS used to reveal --- gh] There
is also a post like stamp on the QSL Letter with writing around the
circumference, which is illegible, In the center in large letters are
the words PAANO NMP. [cyrillic for RADIO PMR, the Roman letters being
an approximation --- gh]

The MW and FM frequency languages are listed as Russian, Ukranian and
Moldavien. As for the times, all are listed at the top of the chart
schedule as TRANSMISSION TIME UT, so I was interpreting this to mean
UT. I hope this sheds some additional light, Glenn. Thank you for the
follow-up. 73's, (Ed Insinger, ibid.)

PRIDNESTROVYE [and non]. Re 10-02: >> And I wonder what ``Sgdra
rotation A-31A`` means <<

This description appears to be slightly messed up. SGD-RA are dipole
arrays on fixed constructions, as opposed to the usual wired curtains.

But Grigoropol has also a rotating antenna that runs on rails. It is
being referred to as PA A30/31. It remains a bit unclear if this is
the type number of this system, A30/31 could also be a specific
Grigoriopol equipment designator. Here it is:
http://www.novosibdx.info/grigoriopol.html
http://maps.google.de/?ie=UTF8&ll=47.263472,29.400508&spn=0.002672,0.004774&t=k&z=18

Of course the system has been placed away from the other installations
to minimize the azimuthal range it can not reach. North of this system
are the other shortwave antennas and transmitters.

It is pretty obvious how the transmitters are placed in two groups.
The first one consisted of three PKV-500 transmitters and went on air
in 1973, the second one with two further PKV-500's followed in 1975.
Around 1986/87 two of the transmitters from 1973 have been replaced by
new Kondor-1 units, rated at 2000 kW but apparently never run at more
than 1000 kW. The other three transmitters have been upgraded into a
1000 kW variant called PKV-500-M.

East of the shortwave facilities is the LW/MW complex that went on air
with three Buran model transmitters (1000 kW) in 1971, later followed
by a Shtorm-S (150 kW) that has been moved in from somewhere else. The
long row is the travelling wave antenna (Zarya) for 1548 kHz, the four
masts are a configurable antenna (Kvadrat) that should be in use on
621 kHz. The "thick" one of the three ND masts is a configurable cage
antenna (ARRT) for 999 kHz. The missing mast was a 350 meters tall
antenna (AM-350) for 234 kHz that crashed in 1997, not disrupting an
existing service because 234 kHz had been closed down already some
years before due to the slow decline of Radio-1.

http://www.panoramio.com/photo/2753512
Some of the other shortwave equipment: SGD-RA antennas (the closest
ones aiming at South America), background left curtains aiming at
North America, background right the 1973 transmitter complex.

Check out also the Padarsko photos; this is identical equipment

6260 Test of YFR via Girgoriopol.

Family Radio on 6260 - new frequency?
Heard Family Radio with Brother Harold Camping, "Open Forum" 'phone-in
programme yesterday (Sat 16 Jan) at 2015 UT and again this evening 2048 UT
on unscheduled 6260 kHz ( \\ weak 15195 kHz). Very strong powerhouse
signal here on 6260 kHz, SIO 555. Anyone know the site for this frequency
which I can't see scheduled - its strong enough to be somewhere like
Moldova?
(Alan Pennington-UK, BrDXC-UK Jan 17)

Re 6260 kHz. Maybe a punching error at Grigoriopol Maiac Moldova site?
YFR nominal on 6240 kHz at 2000-2200 UT with 300 kW, at 285 and 309
degrees.
(wb BrDXC-UK Jan 17)

Nope, it's not a punching error. According to IBB Monitoring, WYFR is
TESTING from Grigoriopol 2000-2100 UT on 6260 kHz from Jan 14. You can
hear reception samples [mp4 and ra format] by visiting
<http://europe.ibbmonitor.com/rmsweb/ui/sound_query.php>
and choose:

YFR; TEST; - All -; - All - (all dates, or desired)
and then click Submit...
(Dragan Lekic-SRB, BrDXC-UK Jan 1Cool

Thanks Dragan, test on 14 til 17 Jan only. No reception at nearby
Bucharest and Vienna monitoring, due of dead skip zone. Malmoe files not
so strong than London monitoring.

MOLDOVA 15670 Radio Mada International via Grigoriopol Maiac Moldova
[Pridnestrovye] at *1530-1600* UT on Jan 30. I finally remembered to check
again for this on the weekend. Yes, they are still here with fair
reception; sounded like Malagasy; interview in studio; segment with
interviews with a lot of background noise from a large crowd; 1555 UT
played nice African ballad till suddenly off with no announcement; fair.
300 kW at 160 degrees.

No curtain antenna available towards Africa at Grigoriopol Maiac. Most
probably the revolving antenna at
47 15 48.82 N 29 24 01.08 E in use.

PRIDNESTROVYA.
Domingos a Jueves:
HORA UTC KHZ IDIOMA

E-mail: radiopmr @ inbox.ru
(Marcelo A. Cornachioni, Argentina, Conexion Digital Jan 31 via DXLD)

For quite a while they were running only one of the hours above, and
now that is outdated (gh, DXLD)

I've noticed that English on Pridnestrovie's Radio PMR has moved up to
2300 from 2315. French seems to be on from 2215 to 2230; 2245-2300;
and 2330-2345. German is on 2230-2245 and 2345-0000. A possible
Russian sounding language has taken the former English slot from 2315-
2330.

You can add English from 2200 to 2215 to the schedule. I noticed this
just today (February 3). (Mark Coady, Ont., NASWA yg via WORLD OF
RADIO 1498, DXLD)

I wish these guys would make up their minds. English was back on at 2315 today
(February 4th) in addition to 2200 so I guess we can assume the 2200
transmission is a permanent addition? (Mark Coady, NASWA yg via DXLD)

Radio PMR (PRIDNESTROVIA) heard today in French at 1943 followed by
German one minute later on 6240 kHz (and probably English at 1915?)
New transmission to Europe? Regards (Jean-Michel AUBIER, France, Feb

MOLDOVA. On MW 999 kHz Grigoriopol site heard Mon-Fri in Russian at
0430-0500 UT with ID "Pragramma Prdnestrovia". It is already renamed
ID from the earlier "Radio Pridnestrovia".

All news and comments are with friendly words to Moldovian authorities
in Chisinau, not as earlier. The announcement at 0457 UT was "We are
on the air Mondays to Fridays on FM from 11 and from 20 and on MW 999
kHz from 6 to 8 MT", respectively 08 & 17 UT on FM and 0300-0500 UT on

Dave Kenny

1800-2000 Radio PMR (probably Mon-Fri)
1800 English, 1815 French, 1830 German,
1845 English, 1900 French, 1915 German
1930 English, 1945 German

(2000-2200 Family Radio relay)

2200-0000 Radio PMR (Sun-Thurs?)
2200 English, 2215 French, 2230 German
2245 English, 2300 French, 2315 German
2330 English, 2345 German

Massive signal here throughout the entire span, not surprising really with
up to 500 kW from Moldova beamed this way.

PRIDNESTROVYE. Moldova/Pridnestrovie(?): 6240, Radio PMR Info was
that English was supposed to be at 2315 but that didn't happen, at
least today! I heard French until 2313, then into German, with IS and
ID. German program had MANY mentions of Moldova, and Pridnestrovie.
Into English with IS and ID as "This is Tiraspol, the capital of the
Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic" and "Radio PMR" at 2330.

Mentions of border disputes with Moldova, Defender of the Fatherland
Day/Men's Day (I LIKE the sound of that holiday!) in Russia (Feb 23) -
- kind of a Russian Veteran's Day/counterpart to the international
Woman's day stuff, and mention of the Deployment of Western troops and
weapons in Romania and Bulgaria.

They closed English at :42 w/address, and email address of radiopmr @
inbox.ru mentioned, but asking for SASE if you want a paper mail reply
apparently; into French after a brief Interval Signal, and going until
the TOH when the Radio Moscow IS sounded, and it went into RMWS [sic,
sic].

Now the commentary part of the logging. Judging from the broadcast
I heard, and web resources, there is no love lost between Moldova and
Pridnestrovie (or the Pridnestrovskaia Moldovaskala [sic] Respublica"
as they say...) yet HFCC calls the transmitter site Kichinev, which,
according to the map and the geographic coordinates is well west of
the river the Pridnestrovians call the border, so the transmitters
appear to be in Moldova proper.

Some sources have said the transmitter is actually in Grigoriopol,
which IS on the right side of the border to be in Pridnestrovie, which
makes a lot more sense. However, 'the usual sources' disagree and HFCC
doesn't even list Grigoriopol as a transmitter site. So, assuming for
argument's sake that this is from Moldova, how is it that the
programming and attitude of the station is so ANTI-Moldovian, and yet
it IS on the air (particularly in light of what the PMR sources claim
is such an oppressive and censorship loving regime in Moldova!). So,
in short, what's up with that?
Heard well SIO 443+, from 2310-2400* 22/Feb

6240, Radio Moscow World Service [sic] with English news, and talk re
current events. BANGING in but there was an annoying rumble (maybe
local QRM?...) marring reception. SIO 4+44 until the BoH when the
rumble got really bad (SIO 4+32 and started almost sounding like
jamming of some sort. LSB helped clear it up, but still not great
reception. Could this be spurblobs from Cairo on 6270/6290? There is
some sort of digital hash (DRM?) on 6230 ... was that the source? Hard
to pin this one down! 0200-0240 26/Feb (Kenneth Vito Zichi,
Williamston MI, MARE Tipsheet via DXLD)

Since it`s UT Sunday, Radio PMR is back after its 2-day weekend break,
Feb 28 at 2252 in English, good signal on 6240. The first thing I hear
is propaganda, ``victorious fatherland`` about a 1972 memorial on the
28th anniversary of the liberation of Tiraspol from the Nazis. So now
it is the 38th anniversary of the 28th anniversary! Get over it?

The English, French, and German broadcasts had exactly the same
content - peacekeepers' manoevers and the 20th anniversary of the
first casualties in the Moldovan-Pridnestrovyan conflict (2nd Nov
1990). This filled the first 15 minutes; the second 15 minutes consist
of very cheesy Russian-language songs, apparently of Pridnestrovyan
origin (one at least was about "my republic Pridnestrovye" and its
lovely vineyards).

The Russian broadcast was different, with more reports and without the
long music fill; possibly using material from the domestic service. It
starts with the ID "You are listening to Radio Pridnestrovye, we are
working for you!" followed by the national anthem of this self-
declared republic. Then "Govorit Tiraspol" and ID now as "Radio PMR".

I remember me, when powerhouse Radio Moscow MW 1546 kHz appeared on air - in the mid 70ties, using the huge 2 km long directional Zarya antenna at Mayak Grigoriopol.
